LINKEDIN RELIEF

When I teach my 8-week local classes on social media marketing, week 5 is on LinkedIn. I ALWAYS hear a sigh of RELIEF from my students when they finally get to experience a GROWN-UP social space. I always get a kick out of that, as I’m happy in all the social spaces, but my students generally love exploring and using LinkedInmore than Twitter, Facebook and YouTube!

I don’t get to teach my local and online classes as much as I’d like, so I’ve been searching for a space online where I can direct people. There are MANY courses and products to choose from, but this one: Linked University is REALLY nice.  [Read more...]

Touring Linked University

I got a little tour on the inside of this space and I was impressed. So impressed I decided to join with a good friend of mine, Ellen Finkelstein, and host a webinar with the founder of LinkedUniversity where YOU get to see how this works, too.

The creator of LinkedUniversity is Josh Turner and in this interview Josh and I discuss how businesses are using LinkedIn to create more business. :-)

During this webinar Josh will show you:

  • How to use the LinkedIn connections you already have to rapidly grow your database, get more leads, and increase sales.
  • What one business owner has done to generate 90 leads and $465,000 in additional sales, all off LinkedIn in just 8 months!
  • The EXACT SCRIPT that one of our clients has used to generate $3 million in sales in 2012 alone, all off of LinkedIn.
  • How to utilize LinkedIn to build a MASSIVE email list!!
  • The LinkedIn strategies one business owner used to secure international distribution and equity investment for a brand new product.
  • How to improve your Google rankings by utilizing little-known LinkedIn tactics.
  • The secret to utilizing LinkedIn groups to grow your business, even for B2C companies!

Everything Josh is going to show you will include case studies of his clients and people JUST LIKE YOU that used these same methods for big success.

Don’t miss out on this one, you’re absolutely going to love it, especially if you like grow-up social spaces and a focus on expanding your business.

Replay of the event will be provided to all registrants, so even if you can’t make it live, be sure to sign up!

I’m SO happy with the INSIDE of this product that I decided to become one of Josh’s affiliates. His LinkedUniversity is going on my “Interactive Reference Chart” I’m building, under the section for LinkedIn.

I feel THAT strongly about this system!

Love to see you there! Spread the word to your friends who want to use LinkedIn the way it is built to be used.

2013 Predictions from a Psychic Grandma in Iowa

Psychic Grandma - Phyllis Khare Keynote Speaker
I had the opportunity to interview a woman in Iowa who says she knows the future. Being the skeptic I am, I decided to hear her predictions and then do a little investigating. Here are a few of the crazy things she told me.

Psychic Grandma in Iowa says:

  • G+ Communities will be a cool place to hang out.
  • Facebook will change something.
  • Twitter will try to get our attention.
  • YouTube will get rid of  in-stream ads (one can hope).
  • LinkedIn will create something cool for business presentations.
  • Pheed will be THE place for members-only video webinars.
  • Network TV will erase the line between cable and online viewers.
  • If you don’t show up well on mobile you will lose business.

Let’s take these predictions one by one.

G+ Communities will be a cool place to hang out.

Where do you go at the end of a day? Most people go to Facebook and scan the stream and try to make witty comments, or give advice or console the broken-hearted. But Psychic Grandma says she feels a move in the matrix and people are looking for a deeper conversation. She feels they will find it in the new G+ Communities. I tend to agree with her, as I am already finding that to be the case. Now, at the end of my day I go to G+ first, then scan through Facebook.

Facebook will change something. [Read more...]

Are Pinterest and Instagram Useful for Authors?

What about Pinterest and Instagram? Are they useful for promoting a book?

Yes and No.

I hope I’ve made the case for the need to have a visual marketing strategy in my previous posts. We are moving into a visual learning world and you can see that clearly with the rise of infographics and sites like Pinterest. Our brains are changing to be able to absorb information with images.

The two largest, and most interesting visual sites right now are Pinterest and Instagram. Are they useful for authors? Does it depend on the subject of the book? [Read more...]

Should authors take the time to create an email list?

email lists for authors - Phyllis Khare Should authors take the time to create an email list?

Yes.

The conventional way to build a list it to give something away. Many authors give away a free chapter. And for many authors this is the best way to build a list. But sometimes you have to think a little outside the box to build an email list. Maybe the best thing to give-away is admission to an event where the author is speaking, or be privilege to a invitation-only webcast.

The way to use social media to build the list, is to state the benefit and give the link to the email capture page.

For authors, there are many ways to give in order to receive. –Phyllis

Twitter

Use the hashtag #author or #freechapter or #giveaway or use the keywords of the subject of your book #socialmedia #leadership #coaching. Schedule those posts to go out every three hours or so – round the clock  - as long as you are also tweeting in between those posts (live and other scheduled). I would also set up a few searches for your keywords and create helpful tweets that lead people to your email capture page.

What if I had to restart my business?

Restart your Business by Phyllis KhareWhat if I had to start over?

I was just asked this question for a members-only presentation to new authors. What would I do? What do I advise my clients to do?

Step away from the computer.

Too many people turn on the computer and design their entry into social media marketing with their eyes on other people’s work. That doesn’t mean you can’t take inspiration from other people’s work. Even I took great inspiration from Start with Why.
Step away from the computer and get out your whiteboard, poster board (you remember those- right?) or large piece of paper on your largest table.

Give yourself permission to be in the creative flow and put marker to paper. [Read more...]

Authors – How to get on the A List Marketing Track

Facebook Marketing Al-In-One for Dummies - Phyllis Khare, Amy Porterfield, Andrea Vahl

Using social sites to promote a book pays off.

Remember, all three of the co-authors of Facebook Marketing All-In-One for Dummies (me, Amy Porterfield, and Andrea Vahl) are marketers. We really rocked the space way before the book was available on the shelves.

All three of us used Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube to create a buzz about the book before it was physically available.

And because of our efforts, the people at Wiley were so impressed with the pre-sale numbers they decided to continue the momentum by putting the book in their “A” marketing track. Which means they advertised it more than they would have. [Read more...]

Authors – be prepared – develop a social platform first

fish to waterIt’s my son’s fault

Many years ago my son wrote a book and I wanted to tell the world about it. So I opened an account in Facebook (so I could share it with my friends) and Twitter (so I could share it with the world). Once in those spaces I really took like a fish to water. I absorbed everything I could. I tried every tool, every technique, tested every program and strategy. I literally surfed out there on the edge of all the social accounts. I still do. I’m testing several sites right now, in case the tide turns and people shift their attention away from Facebook and Twitter to…Pheed.

Social platform

I started to get a reputation for knowing how all these social things worked. And one day, out of the blue,  a friend suggested my name to an editor at Wiley for a book project. One of the most important things a traditional publisher looks for in a new author is their platform. A platform today is a wide and deep social reach.
I was very lucky I had spent several years developing my platform by sharing and creating tutorials and connecting with people all over the planet.
