“OMG Why Are We Continuing to Market Using These…” David Meerman Scott

I originally published this back in early December. I just watched it again with my husband. It’s still very powerful, especially for businesses who haven’t made the leap past their fear of social media. It’s worth another listen. Enjoy.

The New Rules of Marketing and PR keynote presentation and Q&A session delivered by David Meerman Scott at the Business Marketing Association 2009 national “Unlearn” conference. Scott spoke June 10, 2009 at the sold-out conference held in Chicago’s Drake Hotel. Since the BMA is a business-to-business organization, Scott’s keynote is tailored to a B-to-B audience. Scott argues that when others spread your ideas and tell your stories online, buyers are eager to do business with you and all kinds of doors begin to open.

He is sooooo great. So real, informed and practical. Earning attention rather than buying it or forcing it.

Why aren't we using it? He said he himself was fired for his creative approach. New Rules means unlearning. We're all having to do a lot of that these days.

He walks his talk. He responds to my posts on his blog and my links to him on my http://www.speakstrong.com blog.

I first heard his name through you – and now I see it everywhere. He's so frank and open – and says it like he sees it. Nice.

I mentioned in my previous post that Scott walks his talk and responds to comments. I posted on my blog about his use of questions to overcome skepticism. He commented on my post with a thank-you and went on to say,

“I’ve used this series of Qs all over the world and the answers are similar no matter where I ask. Here is a short video I did that shows that:

It is even more remarkable to ask these Qs in a boardroom full of skeptics. It works!!”

My post and his comment on it are at: http://www.speakstrong.com/newsletter/2009/12/1

I find that if I put the name of the person I'm quoting in my blog title, they are more likely to comment on the post.

Yes – putting the name or the best keywords all help tremendously on getting traffic back to the post. Did you see my post on the difference in clicks on Tweets when we put keywords in?
