Psychic Grandma - Phyllis Khare Keynote Speaker
I had the opportunity to interview a woman in Iowa who says she knows the future. Being the skeptic I am, I decided to hear her predictions and then do a little investigating. Here are a few of the crazy things she told me.

Psychic Grandma in Iowa says:

  • G+ Communities will be a cool place to hang out.
  • Facebook will change something.
  • Twitter will try to get our attention.
  • YouTube will get rid of  in-stream ads (one can hope).
  • LinkedIn will create something cool for business presentations.
  • Pheed will be THE place for members-only video webinars.
  • Network TV will erase the line between cable and online viewers.
  • If you don’t show up well on mobile you will lose business.

Let’s take these predictions one by one.

G+ Communities will be a cool place to hang out.

Where do you go at the end of a day? Most people go to Facebook and scan the stream and try to make witty comments, or give advice or console the broken-hearted. But Psychic Grandma says she feels a move in the matrix and people are looking for a deeper conversation. She feels they will find it in the new G+ Communities. I tend to agree with her, as I am already finding that to be the case. Now, at the end of my day I go to G+ first, then scan through Facebook.

Facebook will change something.

This is a given. You don’t have to be psychic to predict this one. But ‘what’ will they change? Psychic Grandma says the one thing you don’t want them to change. Also their mobile app will continue to miss the mark. Don’t these guys have a real business person in on their design meetings? seriously.

Twitter will try to get our attention.

“Hello!! Remember us??!! We’ve done everything you asked of us; picture and video integration, affordable ad pricing, and controversy…What more do you want?” Yes. I am a fan of Twitter and so is the Psychic Grandma, but with so little time and G+ being so interesting, Twitter will get the short end of the attention span. In reaction to this, Twitter will do something bold to get our attention. I bet there are 50 wild ideas up on that wall for discussion right now. Psychic Grandma agrees with Smart Company on this point.

YouTube will get rid of in-stream ads.

Oh please, please please. I so hope Psychic Grandma is right about this one. There is nothing that KILLS the whole YouTube experience than a straight-up network-style ad right before you try to watch the latest crazy thing on college humor. And YouTube Channels STOP IT. Don’t select that option.

LinkedIn will create something cool for business presentations.

I think they have to figure something out to keep people on their platform. Since they call themselves the business network, they need to be a place where businesses do business and for many that means presentations. Psychic Grandma thinks it will be integrated into the Company Pages. I hope she’s right on this one, too.

Pheed will be THE place for members-only video webinars.

Sometimes I think this Grandma is a little nuts. This particular prediction is a little out-there I think. Pheed is a cool space, but I don’t know if 2013 will be the year everyone ‘discovers’ it.

Network TV will erase the line between cable and online viewers.

Oh, please please please. I’m tired of trying to hack into a live performance on NBC or CBS or ABC. Figure this out people. I really hope Psychic Grandma is right about this one, too.

If you don’t show up well on mobile you will lose business.

I don’t think you have to be psychic to predict this one. Everyone feels the same way. We are certainly moving into a mobile society, unless the weather traps us inside our homes and we still have those big old clunky computers. David Marcus, the President of PayPal expresses this mobile integration on TheNextWeb post.

Psychic Grandma thinks you will get a life.

When I asked this crazy woman in Iowa about the rest of our lives she predicts:

  • you can have a life without a computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile phone
  • you can learn to grow your own food and love it
  • local will be even more important for your business
  • wacky weather will continue and we will learn to deal with it
So there you go. 2013 couldn’t come any quicker in my opinion. 2012 was terrible on every level. Let’s enjoy this next year and celebrate and honor and love each other.
